How it runs

The work, step by step.

  1. We start from the decision, not the dataset: what should change when this number moves?
  2. We agree the KPI list and write down how each is calculated.
  3. We build, then reconcile every headline figure against your source.
  4. You approve, and we hand over the file plus the refresh guide.

On top of this sits the five-stage engagement process that every project follows — including what usually goes wrong at each stage.

Both lists are published at the same weight, deliberately. A boundary you discover during delivery is a boundary you were not told about.

  • Data entry of the underlying records unless separately scoped
  • Direct connection to an ERP or accounting API unless we confirm it is accessible first
  • Ongoing preparation each period — that is Managed Reporting
When we would tell you not to buy this.
  • The underlying data is not yet reliable. Cleanup comes first; a dashboard over bad data spreads the error faster.

Assumes stable, accessible sources. If the refresh depends on a system we have not confirmed we can reach, that confirmation happens before the estimate stands.

Will the report refresh when new data arrives?

Only if it was scoped to. A one-time report answers a question at a point in time; a refreshable one needs the source to arrive in a consistent shape each period, and it is built differently. Tell us at the scoping stage which you want — converting the first into the second afterwards costs more than building the second outright.

When should we use Excel, and when Power BI?

Stay in Excel while one or two people read the report, the data fits comfortably in a workbook, and the refresh can be someone opening a file. Move to Power BI when several people need the same view, the workbook has become slow, the report has to work on a phone, or the refresh has to be scheduled rather than remembered. We assess this before we quote and will tell you to stay in Excel when that is the honest answer — it costs you less and needs no licence.

How many revisions are included?

Every package states its own allowance, and it is on the package card rather than buried in terms. A revision means a correction against the scope we agreed. A new requirement is a change request, priced separately — we will always tell you which one we think it is before doing the work, not after.
