Who this is for. Organisations where several people need the same view, the data volume has outgrown Excel, or the refresh has to happen without somebody opening a file.

How it runs

The work, step by step.

  1. Assessment first — we will tell you if Excel is still the right answer.
  2. Data modelling and measure definition, agreed with you before the visuals.
  3. Report build and validation against source.
  4. Sharing, access and refresh setup, then training and handover.

On top of this sits the five-stage engagement process that every project follows — including what usually goes wrong at each stage.

The boundary

Included, and not included.

Both lists are published at the same weight, deliberately. A boundary you discover during delivery is a boundary you were not told about.

  • Discovery and Excel-versus-Power-BI assessment
  • Data model and DAX measures
  • Report pages, filters and drill-through
  • Refresh, sharing and access documentation
  • User training and handover

Not included

  • Licences. Power BI Pro, Premium Per User or Fabric capacity are bought by you, directly from Microsoft.
  • Tenant administration, security-group changes or gateway infrastructure on your network
  • Any claim of Microsoft partnership or certification. We build Power BI reports; we are not a Microsoft partner and do not present ourselves as one.
  • Embedding into your own application — that needs a separate licensing and security design
When we would tell you not to buy this.
  • One person reads the report and the data fits in a workbook. Excel is cheaper to own and nobody needs a licence.
  • The data sources are not yet stable or accessible to a scheduled refresh.

Assumes stable, accessible sources. If the refresh depends on a system we have not confirmed we can reach, that confirmation happens before the estimate stands.

Will the report refresh when new data arrives?

Only if it was scoped to. A one-time report answers a question at a point in time; a refreshable one needs the source to arrive in a consistent shape each period, and it is built differently. Tell us at the scoping stage which you want — converting the first into the second afterwards costs more than building the second outright.

When should we use Excel, and when Power BI?

Stay in Excel while one or two people read the report, the data fits comfortably in a workbook, and the refresh can be someone opening a file. Move to Power BI when several people need the same view, the workbook has become slow, the report has to work on a phone, or the refresh has to be scheduled rather than remembered. We assess this before we quote and will tell you to stay in Excel when that is the honest answer — it costs you less and needs no licence.

Do we need to buy Power BI licences?

Yes, and you buy them directly from Microsoft — they are not resold through us. Which licence depends on how you share the report and with whom, so we confirm your position during assessment rather than after the build. We are not a Microsoft partner and do not present ourselves as one.
